Mayor's Message

In 2004, the City of Kawasaki marked its 80th anniversary since being recognized as a municipality. In its long history, Kawasaki has been famous as one of the most important industrial cities in Japan and has grown into a large city, housing a population of 1.3 million. In the process of changing into a more developed society, Kawasaki aims to create a city where all citizens can live in good health and safety. "Kawasaki, the City of Music" project is one of the policies to realize that aim. Kawasaki is the hometown of Mr. Kyu Sakamoto, who is famous and popular among people not only in Japan, but also throughout the world as well. Moreover, Kawasaki is home to two conservatoriums of music as well as numerous amateur symphonies and choirs. Kawasaki also maintains friendly city ties with the City of Salzburg in Austria, which is known all over the world as a city of music. Considering all these factors, it can be said that Kawasaki is blessed with excellent conditions for fostering the enjoyment of music. The MuZA Kawasaki Symphony Hall, opened on July 1st-also the 80th anniversary commemorative day as a municipality is the symbol of "Kawasaki, the City of Music" project. There are no words that can express the feelings we have when touched by a great musical performance. I would like to welcome you to the new Kawasaki in order to enjoy the high quality acoustics of the MuZA Kawasaki Symphony Hall and experience the wonderful feelings that one gets from music.

Abe Takao
Mayor of City of Kawasaki
